Zachary Ludens is a Partner in Shaw Lewenz’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group and Chair of the firm’s Appellate Practice.
Zach has served as counsel for many of the largest companies in the United States and has routinely litigated with and against the biggest law firms in the world. He has been revered as “Best Attorney in Miami” and “Efficient and Effective” by his clients and is consistently recognized for his intelligence and legal acumen. In recognition of his legal scholarship, Zach serves on the Editorial Board of the Federal Bar Association and his community involvement and activism were recognized when he was selected to serve as a Standing Committee Member for the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
Zach and his cases have been featured in the Daily Business Review, Law 360, and Top Class Actions. He has also been featured and/or quoted in national news stories published in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Bloomberg, and NBC News.
Zach represents businesses and individuals in complex commercial litigation, consumer litigation, insurance litigation, and financial services litigation, predominately in federal court. Zach handles litigation from the pre-suit process through discovery, dispositive motions, trials, and appeals. Zach has handled appeals in numerous of Florida’s appellate courts as well as in a majority of the federal appellate courts.
In addition, Zach has substantial experience representing clients in civil, administrative, and white-collar criminal actions by the Department of Justice (“DOJ”) as well as state and federal regulatory authorities, including the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”), Federal Communications Commission (“FCC”), and Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”). Zach has worked alongside—and learned criminal defense from—some of the country’s most renowned criminal defense attorneys—including those that have represented and/or defended Roger Clemens, Deshaun Watson, R. Kelly, Rod Blagojevich Conrad Black, Rush Limbaugh, Kelsey Grammer, Jeffrey Epstein, Justin Bieber, and Michael Avennati. Zach has substantial experience in Medicare and Medicaid fraud, DME Fraud, heath care fraud, and insurance fraud.
Prior to joining Shaw Lewenz and its predecessor, Zach practiced with a national Am Law 200 firm in Miami and a regional Gulf Coast firm in Miami, where he gained experience defending some of the biggest financial institutions and insurance companies in the world. In addition, Zach was a judicial intern for the Honorable Judge Jose E. Martinez in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Zach obtained his law degree from the University of Miami School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude and was elected to the Order of the Coif. Zach also holds a master’s degree from the University of Miami as well as bachelor’s degrees from Augustana University and the University of Florida, all with honors.
